CalSO

At the end of every fall we hire a diverse group of undergraduates to represent the incredibly varied entering class. We're looking for passionate, hard-working, open-minded, team-playing leaders. Whiners need not apply! This is the 2007 team, growling for the camera. Photo by Jenne Mowry.

This job is NOT for the faint of heart. During training you will work long and hard hours. You will have fun, and you will be challenged. Once summer starts, you will wake up at 5:30 am five days a week. You will make close friends, and you could even meet your future life partner! You will also learn invaluable skills such as public speaking, mingling, and time management. You may have to spend some time with words taped to your forehead, like these counselor buddies, Cut and Paste. Photo by Jenne Mowry.

You will be providing an incredible service to new students and to the University. One way is by reviewing and reassuring students about their class schedules. Photo by Peg Skorpinski.

You will learn the merits of blue tape (it won't peel paint off classroom walls). You'll get lots of free stuff like a cool clipboard with your name, a CalSO T-shirt or two, maybe a sweatshirt, and even a first aid kit and CalSO water bottle. Photo by Peg Skorpinski.

Time Warp.

Big CalSO Love.

You will feel the love. These counselors are cheering on one of their own as she takes the stage to deliver her 15-minute "FYE" [First Year Experience] to a group of 450 transfers and their guests. Photo by Peg Skorpinski.

Clump.

Thou shalt not clump, but thou wilt [sigh], thou wilt! Photo by Akash Suri.

CalSO

At CalSO it's all about the feedback--from your counselees, counselor peers, and the pro staff. What a great opportunity for self-improvement! These counselors are filling out a program evaluation before heading off to MPPM (the mandatory post program meeting). Okay, you caught us, this photo is from 2006, but the concept's too good to let go. Photo by Peg Skorpinski.

During Welcome Week CalSO counselors can work several programs including Convocation, two Getting Your Bearings orientations, and Calapalooza. Here 2007 counselors in matching shirts direct tablers to check-in. Photo by Josh Hattersley.

There's more to being a CalSO counselor than the glamour. Everyone participates in a certain amount of grunt work like hauling tables, tents and Resource guides, stuffing folder packets or making phone calls to new undergraduate Berkeley admits.
